So, inspired by our foray with Dim Sum Warriors, Yen decided to try some academic commentary in comic form (with me doing the illustrations). It’s called ‘Choice’ and it’s about how a professor of education grapples with the issue of school choice, against the frictions between her intellectual convictions, the evaluation system of academic life, and the hegemony of consumerist culture that dominates her daily existence. It is inspired by true events, but it’s completely fictional.
It just got published by Teachers College Record – one of the top education research journals! This is a first, I think. Alas, the piece is available to read only if you have the requisite membership. If you do, you can find it HERE.
